There's something special about beginnings, that sense of newness and opportunity.
By contrast in the middle, things can feel heavy and hemmed in. It is hard to see clearly.
Joseph Goldstein, who I have mentioned previously, reminds us that we can always simply begin again (he says they are "the three most important words in mindfulness").
This is useful beyond meditation. When Andy Grove was CEO of Intel, he asked his partner "If we got kicked out and the board brought in a new CEO, what do you think he would do?" This reframing helped them to make the hard decision ("get us out of memories").
So new beginnings are always available, and are often where answers are to be found. A blank page can be daunting, to be sure, but it is also full of possibility.
