I haven't written much recently. Initially I was struck dumb by the pandemic, but as that has gone from story to setting, my creative energy outside work has been directed elsewhere, towards a few software projects. I have enjoyed renovating some old skills, and learning some new ones. I have experienced moments of monumental frustration. In other words - I have been writing code.
The phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants" could be applied to almost any evolving, growing area of technology and science, but I have never felt its effects quite so viscerally. Every time I import a new javascript package, or discover a new API that does just what I need it to. A raised glass, to the developer who went before, who shared what they had built with the internet. They wrote code, so I don't have to. How cool is that?
